Living for Eternity

Today's Reading:
2 Peter 1-3

In today's reading we are reminded of how temporal our lives on this earth are and that as Peter writes, "But the day of the Lord will come like a thief" (3:10). In Peter's 2nd letter I see a strong emphasis placed on the importance of growing in our knowledge of God's word and our faith as followers of Jesus Christ (1:3, 5, 6, 8, 10, 12; 3:1, 16). One of the best ways to do this is to be continually growing in our understanding of who God is through His word. There are many honest and sincere believers in churches all over this country who follow men and women who teach false doctrines. Some of these teacher/leaders are well known and have large, growing ministries. But they are in error (2:3). There have even been times when I have sat in small groups where the leader was teaching Scripture in error. This is a dangerous practice. God has placed you in a powerfully unique position to teach others truth...for them. So that they may become mature and stable in their walk with God. Persevere in your study of God's word and you will be used of God greatly in the lives of others. The best thing that we can leave behind us in this temporal world are the seeds of truth and love that we have sown into the lives of others. The Lord promises a great reward for those who persevere in this type of ministry.

PrayerPoint:
Pray for another small group leader today.
